Michael Bertorelli is a Chicago-based printmaker.  He has developed his own unique printing technique: by manipulating a thermoplastic plate with heat sources, he is able to generate a wide variety of marks and textures.  He prints on 100% cotton rag paper with Graphic Chemicals etching inks using a Dickerson electric combination flatbed press.

Michael developed his printing process in the early 1970s and has been exploring its possibilities over the last four decades.  The subject of his prints cover a range of forms and subjects from the figurative to the abstract, autobiographical to psychological.  His goal as an artist is to create images that are extremely engaging to the eyeball, but also open out onto some other internal and personal space for the viewer.

He finds that he is continuously surprised by new discoveries every day.
